In February 2018, I was a new blogger who was struggling to break 1,000 monthly page views.
By August 2018, I had grown my blog traffic to over 15,000 monthly page views.
What changed? I read the Pinteresting Strategies course by Carly Campbell about five times from beginning to end. Then I implemented the strategies, unlocking the power of Pinterest to grow my blog traffic.
This post is my honest review of Pinteresting Strategies, one of the most popular Pinterest courses. With over 3,000 students, Pinteresting Strategies has helped countless bloggers grow their traffic with its unconventional manual pinning strategy. But is it right for you? I’ll go over the pros, cons, and all the details to help you make that decision. Let’s get started.

What Is Pinteresting Strategies?
Pinteresting Strategies is an online course that shows bloggers how to drive massive traffic to their blogs by manually pinning on Pinterest. This course was created by Carly Campbell, a mom blogger who consistently drives 200,000 monthly page views to her blog using Pinterest. Carly runs the blog Mommy on Purpose as well as the popular Facebook group, Blogging Like You Mean It.
I learned about Pinteresting Strategies after taking a few beginner Pinterest courses that all seemed to offer the same advice:
- Create a Pinterest business account.
- Optimize your profile and boards with keywords.
- Sign up for Tailwind and start scheduling pins.
After trying the conventional Pinterest strategy for months, I was getting results but not at the speed I had hoped for. I wondered if there was a faster way to hit my first 10k, 20k, and 50k monthly pageviews. After all, I saw so many bloggers talk about how they created viral pins and saw massive traffic in a matter of days. If they could do it, why couldn’t I?
One night while browsing on Pinterest, I came across a pin about the Pinteresting Strategies course. What immediately stood out to me about Pinteresting Strategies was Carly Campbell’s manual pinning strategy. This was a huge departure from what other Pinterest gurus were recommending – sign up for Tailwind to automate your pinning. By following this manual pinning strategy, Carly was driving 200,000 page views to her blog for free and making $10,000+ a month.
Intrigued by Carly’s success, I immediately bought Pinteresting Strategies and devoured it in one sitting. I remember having one aha moment after another as I stayed up at night reading Carly’s insights on Pinterest. Finally, everything clicked. Pinterest made complete sense to me. I had a moment of clarity and an intense desire to take action right away. Carly had lifted the veil on Pinterest in a way no other teacher had done before.
Why manual pinning?
There is a fierce debate in the blogosphere about which is more effective: manual or automated pinning? While I don’t believe that one is better than the other, I do believe that there are some advantages to manual pinning.
First, manual pinning allows you to better understand how Pinterest works. This is especially important for those who are new to using Pinterest for business. Logging into Pinterest every day, saving pins to your boards, observing pins that perform well, and paying attention to what pops up on your home feed – those are some of the activities that help you familiarize yourself with the platform. You simply can’t get those insights that if you leave your pinning to a scheduler.
Secondly, you can save money by pinning manually, although it is more time consuming in the beginning. Tailwind starts at $10 per month. With all the blogging expenses you already have, it’s good to cut back on costs wherever you can.
Who is Pinteresting Strategies for?
Pinteresting Strategies for bloggers who want to learn how to use Pinterest to increase their traffic, without investing in a scheduler like Tailwind. While any blogger can benefit from this course, I would recommend it for those who have some familiarity with Pinterest. It’s ideal if you already have spent some time using Pinterest and have a basic understanding of how it works. Pinteresting Strategies will help you deepen your understanding of Pinterest.
Maybe you’ve tried using a scheduler like Tailwind and haven’t seen results. Your goal is to grow your traffic to quality for a high-paying ad network like Mediavine or Adthrive. You would be the ideal candidate for Pinteresting Strategies. Working through this course would enable you to understand Pinterest at a deeper level. That way you can formulate a new Pinterest strategy with more clarity and confidence. You’d also be able to compare the effectiveness of manual pinning versus automated pinning.
If you’re just getting started with Pinterest, you may not have enough background to truly appreciate Carly’s manual pinning strategy. In addition, the course gives an in-depth explanation of how the Pinterest algorithm works, what Pinterest looks for, and how pins work. If you haven’t spent much time on Pinterest, you might struggle to make sense of it all. I would suggest that you spend some time using Pinterest before purchasing this course.
How is the course structured?
When I purchased Pinteresting Strategies back in 2018, it was an ebook. Now, the course has been reformatted as a text and video-based course. Carly includes video explanations throughout the course to help illustrate the key points.
The course begins with a section about how to optimize your blog for traffic before you start using Pinterest. Then it dives into an overview of how Pinterest works and the different components of Pinterest you need to understand. It ties everything together by detailing Carly’s strategy that has allowed her to get 200,000 page views a month from Pinterest.
Each chapter builds on the other so it’s important not to skip anything. There is also a key points recap at the end of each section to reinforce the main takeaways. The course is structured to help you not only understand the concepts, but also retain the information you learn. You can complete all the lessons in a day as
What’s included in the course?
With seven core sections, Pinteresting Strategies is a rather condensed course that you can read through in about 3-4 hours. Here’s an overview of the topics covered in Pinteresting Strategies
- First Things First
- Getting Started: How Pinterest Works + Profile Set Up
- Pinterest is about people
- Pinterest is about SEO, too
- Group Boards
- Get Pinning
- Final Important Things and FAQ
Pinteresting Strategies has added quite a few updates in 2020. Pinterest made some major algorithm changes at the beginning of 2020. In response to that, Carly created a section to address those changes and all future Pinterest changes.
- Current News and Updates
- Advanced Strategies for 2020
- 15 Free Pin Templates (10 for Canva and 5 for PicMonkey)
What I liked the most about Pinteresting Strategies
The easy to understand language
Carly explains Pinterest in layman’s terms so that anyone can make sense of it. She writes in a relatable way that keeps you engaged. Her greatest asset is her thorough understanding of the Pinterest algorithm and her ability to explain it in simple language.
The unique Pinterest tricks and hacks
Carly’s second greatest asset is her knowledge of little-known tricks and hacks to show Pinterest that you’re a trusted pinner and get your content in front of more eyeballs. From pin design tips to profile optimization strategies, Pinteresting Strategies is loaded with smart ways to get discovered on Pinterest.
The videos and illustrations
I am a visual learner so I appreciated Carly’s videos, diagrams, and screenshots. Each concept is accompanied by illustrations to show it in action. This helped me grasp the concepts quickly and remember them. Carly also includes videos throughout the course, taking you through her own Pinterest account. You get to watch over her shoulder as she explains different components of Pinterest. For instance, in the beginning, Carly includes a short video to give a basic overview of how Pinterest works. Even if you’ve been using Pinterest for sometime, this video will help you see it in a new perspective.
The ‘Pinterest is About People’ section
This is the part of the course that gave me the most aha moments. It completely changed how I approach pin design by allowing me to understand three things:
- How Pinterest users respond to images and text
- How the Pinterest algorithm uses images to index pins
- Why premium images are better than free stock photos. (After learning this, I signed up for Deposit Photos and saw an immediate boost in pin clicks.)
Based on what I learned from this section, I went on to create some of my most successful pins, one of which has been shared almost 70,000 times on Pinterest.
Carly’s breakdown of her Pinterest strategy
Carly devotes a specific section to thoroughly explain her Pinterest strategy. I have referred back to this section dozens of times over the last two years. In fact, I modeled my own Pinterest strategy after Carly’s and had tremendous results. I can’t go into the specifics of Carly’s strategy because her course is copyrighted. I will say that Carly’s secret sauce for driving massive traffic is Google Analytics. However, I can say that her strategy of using Google Analytics to increase her Pinterest traffic is the single most game-changing Pinterest strategy I have tried. It is the reason why I was able to rapidly grow my traffic.
The bonus pin templates
I’m so glad that Carly added pin templates to the course! I’ve been using them to create new pins for this blog, and they are simply amazing. Carly even includes some of the best-performing pin templates that she has personally used to get thousands of page views. I like that she provides both Canva and PicMonkey templates. Usually, course creators only included bonus Canva templates.
What I didn’t like about Pinteresting Strategies
The occasional rambling
Pinteresting Strategies is written in a casual, relatable way, but sometimes I found the writing a bit unfocused. There were a few sections where Carly would introduce an unrelated topic because she didn’t know where else to put it. It was like she was spitting out all her ideas on paper and wasn’t quite sure how to organize everything. This is a minor issue and the only real fault I could find with the course. It wasn’t a big enough distraction to detract from the tremendous value that the course provides.
Is Pinteresting Strategies worth the money?
At $57, I think Pinteresting Strategies is a bargain for the value it provides. I think this course should be at least $200. The depth of information that Carly provides is something you will not find in any other course. I can say that with confidence.
If you want to understand the nitty gritty of how Pinterest works, you will not be disappointed. Carly is a master of the Pinterest algorithm and knows what Pinterest wants inside out. If you’re looking for a miracle cure for low traffic, you will be disappointed. Growing your blog traffic with Pinterest is a process that takes time. In addition, while some people have found success with Carly’s manual pinning strategy, others have not. I personally had success with it, but it took me three months of consistent manual pinning to see the fruits of my labor.
If you try to search the internet for Pinterest tips and strategies, you’ll lose precious time and easily get confused. There are thousands of gurus these days so you’ll find false, disjointed, or even contradictory information on the web. Save yourself the hassle of sifting through dozens of web pages that may not even be reliable. Pinteresting Strategies is a no brainer for those who want to save time and get access the information they need to succeed on Pinterest.
Pinteresting Strategies is the best Pinterest course I have taken to date, and I’ve taken quite a few. I would recommend it to bloggers who already have a basic grasp of Pinterest but are still struggling to get traffic from it. For those who are brand new to Pinterest, the course contains steps to set up a Pinterest account and start introducing pins. Therefore, it still offers a ton of value for beginners. I just believe that you will get the most out of it and appreciate the manual pinning method if you have some experience with Pinterest.
I would also recommend that you be open-minded if you decide to buy this course. The manual pinning strategy can take some getting used to if you’ve been using Tailwind. It can also be time-consuming. However, if you want to see results, you have to be willing to roll up your sleeves and do the work. There are no shortcuts. That said, I’m confident that Pinteresting Strategies will change the way you use Pinterest for the better. And you just may see your traffic explode, just like so many other students.
