What is Pitch It Perfect?
Pitch It Perfect is an online course that teaches online entrepreneurs how to pitch and negotiate brand deals, even with a small following. It is taught by Julie Solomon, a PR and branding expert, New York Times-Best Selling author, and host of the Influencer Podcast. She worked as a publicist for years before starting her own PR company.
With less than 12,000 followers, Julie negotiated $250,000 worth of paid brand deals in one year. In Pitch It Perfect, she teaches the mindset, principles, and strategies to successfully pitch brands on a consistent basis. Pitch It Perfect answers questions that people looking to work with brands typically have, such as:

My experience with Pitch It Perfect
I learned about Pitch It Perfect in early 2018. Back then, I was just a few months into my blogging journey and had grown my Instagram following to nearly 10,000 followers. I wanted to capitalize on my growing Instagram following and make brand collaborations one of my main revenue streams. However, up to that point, I had only managed to land free-product-for post deals. I got free watches, bikinis, lip balm, beach towels, and all sorts of products. It was nice to get free stuff, but I also had bills to pay. I needed to find a way to pivot from free products to paid partnerships. The main problem was that I had no idea how to successfully pitch brands for paid collaborations.
I didn’t want to waste time doing guesswork and leaving money on the table. That’s why I invested in Pitch It Perfect – to learn exactly what I needed to know to land brand deals. Before investing in the course, I joined a webinar with Julie Solomon to get a better sense of her background and what I could expect from the course. I also read all the reviews for Pitch It Perfect that I could find. Julie’s experience in the industry and the results her students impressed me very much. This gave me confidence that if I applied the lessons I could get similar results.
After working through the course and applying the strategies, I negotiated my first paid collaboration within a month. I copied and pasted one of the pitch templates from the course in my email correspondence with the brand’s partnerships manager. Of course, I modified it to suit the situation and my brand.
My first paid collaboration was a $300 deal with an eyewear company, which doesn’t seem like a lot. At the time, though, it was a huge win for me. It was more than I was expecting to get paid because I underestimated my worth as a content creator. By taking this course, I learned that I add so much value for brands, and, therefore, can charge more. I also learned how to present my rates to leave room for negotiation.
Within 10 months of completing the course, I negotiated $10,000 worth of brand collaborations. I worked with hotels, fashion brands, food and beverage brands, travel brands, and more. I was able to confidently sell brands on the value I could offer them and negotiate a fair payment for my work.
What do you learn in Pitch It Perfect?
Pitch it Perfect consists of five modules that address one core component of effective pitching. The modules are as follows.

This section includes a lesson on what to charge for brand deals and factors to consider when setting your rates.
Module 4: Pitch Practices
You’ll get an in-depth training on the art of negotiation. Specifically, you’ll learn about the mindset of effective negotiators and Julie’s four-step negotiation strategy. You’ll also learn specific pitching practices to land exclusive partnerships and turn a gifted offer into a paid offer. This the biggest lesson in the entire course.
Module 5: Post Pitching

What I liked most about the course
The lesson on press kits
A press kit, also known as a media kit, is like a resume for bloggers and influencers. It summarizes information like who you are, what you do, your audience demographics, your past collaborations. This gives companies a snapshot of what your brand is about and helps them decide if they want to work with you. In many cases, your press kit forms the first impression brands have of your brand.
Before enrolling in Pitch It Perfect, I had no idea what a press kit was. I hadn’t needed a press kit because I was doing product-for-post campaigns. In the course, Julie Solomon goes over what a press kit is, what information to include in it, and what information to exclude from it. She includes examples of good press kits, including her own. Based on that, I created my own press kit, which has been instrumental in helping me land brand deals over the years.
The pitch threads
In the course, you get real-life examples of how other students successfully negotiated brand deals. There are about pages and pages of email threads and social media messages between influencers and brands. These cover different scenarios, from pitching a hotel stay to pitching a $5,000 Instagram collaboration. I downloaded the threads and saved them in a folder on my laptop. Whenever I’m in the middle of a negotiation with a brand, I often look at the threads to guide my communication. These pitch threads have been such an invaluable tool for my business over the years.
The lesson on what brands look for
Many people fail at landing brand deals because they often approach brands with themselves in mind. They aren’t thinking about what value they can offer the brand. Instead, they focus on what they can gain, mainly money and freebies. There was a viral post about one influencer making a list of unreasonable demands in her pitch for a collaboration. This is an extreme case, it illustrates the entitlement so many influencers have. It’s common for wannabe influencers to ask for free stays at luxury hotels in exchange for free exposure. Is that a good deal for the brand or the influencer?
Pitch It Perfect has a lesson devoted to what brands look for when evaluating candidates to work with. This lesson helps you put yourself in the shoes of a marketing manager or partnerships manager at a company and better understand their perspective. That way, you can write pitches with them in mind and increase your odds of landing the deal.
The email subject line tips
Pitch It Perfect includes a lesson dedicated to how to craft compelling email subject lines. Your goal is to grab the influencer marketing manager’s attention and entice them to open your email. I struggle so much with email headlines so this section was a godsend. After using the email subject line formats, I observed that brands responded to me at a significantly higher rate. These email subject lines work!
The guide to setting your rates
Deciding what to charge for a project is one of the trickiest parts of negotiating a brand deal. I would say that 99% of influencers get it wrong when it comes to charging brands for their work. Specifically, they make two mistakes:
- They undercharge, fearing that charging more will scare brands away. There absolutely no reason to agree to $30 for an Instagram post, no matter the size of your following!
- They list a fixed rate on their media kits, such as $150 for an Instagram post or $200 per blog post. By doing this, they pigeon-hole themselves into a fixed price, leaving no room for negotiation.
Pricing depends on things like context, the scope of work, and brand alignment, not just the size of your following! That’s part of Julie Solomon’s philosophy about setting your rates. She has a simple approach to charging that has streamlined the process for me and also made it less intimidating. This information alone is worth the price of the course. It will allow you to confidently navigate any discussion about your price with brands while ensuring you get paid well for your work.
What I didn’t like so much about the course
The original version was lacking
When I purchased Pitch It Perfect in 2018, it a lot to be desired. There wasn’t as much support for students. Also, the information was rather brief and not as in-depth as I expected from a $500+ course. Although I learned enough to land brand deals, I felt that a course had lots of room for improvement.
After listening to student feedback, Julie Solomon completely revamped the course in 2019. She created a brand new version of Pitch It Perfect, adding more videos, longer lessons, pitch threads, pitch templates, bonus materials, and other resources to help students succeed. Because I still have access to the original 2016 version of the course, I have compared the two versions. I can say that the current version is a massive improvement and fills in the gaps that were missing.
There are many moving pieces to the course
There are hundreds of threads, templates, and downloads that come with this course. While the abundance of resources is helpful, it can also be overwhelming. You need to be organized to make the most of the course and stay on track. I would recommend taking some time to read the course overview packet and sticking with the 30-day framework provided. Pitching becomes easier once you understand the fundamentals and send out your first 25+ emails to brands.
Is Pitch It Perfect worth the money?
Based on my experience with the course, I believe that Pitch It Perfect is worth the money. I think the lesson on setting your rates alone makes the course worth it. Watching that lesson multiple times and applying the principles gave me the confidence to charge significantly more money for brand deals.
Within three months of purchasing Pitch It Perfect, I had recouped my investment. The knowledge and mindset I acquired from this course. If you apply what you learn in this course, I see no reason why you can’t land consistent brand deals, regardless of your follower count. Of course, the higher your follower count and engagement, the more bargaining power you have. However, alignment is just as important, and some brands prefer to work with microinfluencers who have a tight-knit, engaged audience. Don’t count yourself out because you don’t have 50,000 followers.
At $699, Pitch It Perfect is a premium course, but you get what you pay for. When it comes to making an investment in a course, it’s important to think about the long-term payoff. Are you confident that this investment will help you make more money in the future? If the answer is yes, then I would take the leap.
Pitch It Perfect is one of the best investments I’ve made in my business. Two and a half years after purchasing this course, I continue to reference it regularly. This is a one-stop resource for pitching and negotiating brand deals so you won’t need to purchase another course. I haven’t seen the need to purchase another course on the subject because I found everything I needed in Pitch It Perfect. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who is serious about landing lucrative brand deals.
